Escaped Goats Find Home at Safe Haven!

Safe Haven is proud to welcome two very brave goats into our family. Isadora and Duncan escaped from what was most likely a religious ceremony that would have had them both sacrificed. Luckily, they were able to escape and eventually make their way to concerned citizens.

Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary is located in Poughquag, New York, about an hour and a half outside of New York City. In rescuing abused and neglected farm animals, we hope to raise awareness about the plight of animals raised for food, and well as the benefits of a vegan diet for the animals, human health, and the environment.

We are striving to become a model for sustainable living by implementing progressive projects, including permaculture, sustainable design, and soil restoration.

New Barn Is COMPLETE!:

We are proud to announce that our new barn is finally complete and totally awesome! This barn gives Safe Haven the opportunity to combine animal rescue with other issues we care about, like social and environmental responsibility.

We were able to re-use close to 99% of our lumber, greatly reducing waste put into landfills that are often found in low-income areas. Every piece of lumber salvaged was also one less tree that needed to be cut from rapidly dwindling forests.

Now this barn wouldn’t quite be a barn until it had some animal residents keeping it warm. To the rescue were our new goat residents Isadora and Duncan as well as our rested and recuperated Manhattan rescue chickens. They have been busy exploring the different spaces and enjoying the good life.

With the barn completed, it’s time to continue our environmental commitment through additional projects. Our next project is to create a rainwater catchment system that will create clean water reservoir for gardening and other uses. Stay tuned for progress.

New Goats Arrive!

Safe Haven proudly welcomes Isadora and Duncan, two brave goats found wandering the Hutchinson Parkway after escaping from Spanish Harlem. They were likely going to be sacrificed as a part of Santeria rituals.

All that matters now is that they are safe and happy in their new home. They are having fun jumping on the rocks and exploring with each other, and making friends with our other sheep and goats. They also have the honor of being the first residents of our newly completed barn!

Being young goats, it will be a pleasure to see them grow and develop into wonderful ambassadors for their species and for all farm animals, free from pain and suffering.

SAFE HAVEN DOUBLES ITS FAMILY!

Lucy is just an example of the severe de-beaking that is common practice in the egg and meat industries

Safe Haven welcomes 19 new chickens into the family. Rescued from a parking lot in Manhattan, Lucy (pictured above) and her friends finally have a safe place to call home. Chickens’ personalities are as diverse as humans’, and this gang is no different. Their personalities range from curious to timid to down right bossy. So far they are a joy to have around, and we look forward to getting to know them all. Come and meet our new friends!
